I listened to The Tell yesterday, all in one afternoon. It was definitely riveting. I'm currently reading Hot Air by Marcy Demansky and I'm enjoying it but also a little thrown off by the writing style (very short, choppy sentences). I finished Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaghy and I see why people love it, but I just......liked it.

I was so surprised by how compelling The Tell was, I'll say page turning even though I was listening. I just couldn't stop. I have Hot Air but haven't tried it yet, I read Very Nice by her and loved it, but can't remember if she had that same writing style. I'm curious to find out what I think of Wild Dark Shore, I'm hopeful I'll like it but I tried the audio and wasn't feeling the narration so I'm waiting on my Libby hold to come in- were there certain aspects you found slow?

Sylvia’s Second Act sounds like a great read, I'll definitely check it out. I'm watching Adolescence (Netflix) and it's brilliant!

I finish Isola. 5 stars….. i CONSUMED the book! I think that you would like the book. The Bible of this book is the same as that of The Wilds. It is a survivalist story. Not my usual genre and I ended up loving the book.

I'll have to bump that toward the top of my tbr, I think I've had a copy since November and haven't even peeked at it, but as you know I loved The Vaster Wilds and also love a survivalist story so this seems right up my alley

I tried Isola on audio and finally quit about 1/3 of the way in because I was bored. It was one of my most anticipated books of the year so I was so disappointed. But I think I’m going to pick it back up in print because too many trusted readers are loving it!

I probably got 1/3 of the way through the book and wondered why I had used a valuable credit to get this book. But I stuck with it because I paid for it and didn’t because I did not get it free from the library. It paid off. I think I was halfway through the book before it got where I was so engrossed with it that I could not put it down.

I definitely will! I have the print copy on hold.

I feel your pain. I’m trying to get through A Gentlemen In Moscow. I just wrote to my brother this morning and asked him to tell me that it is worth finishing. I am halfway through the book and if I was going to DNF it, I should have did it before I got halfway through. But here I am halfway through and deciding whether or not to continue. My brother said it has a spectacular ending and it’s going to have to be enough to keep me going. So I understand your pain with Reading Isola.

I loved it, so I’ll encourage you to keep going on this one! That said, it took me two tries as well. I DNFd on audio and picked it back up in print.

I am doing audio. When I turned it on last night there was nine hours and six minutes left and I had just gotten to the part where Nina came back as an adult with her child and asked the count to babysit her while she went out to rescue her husband who had been arrested. It seems to me I just reached the pivotal point where it picks up. Plan on continuing.

Please be sure to post and let me know what you thought of the book when you’re done. Let me know if you thought it was worth the investment into this slow burn novel.

I prefer walk in the woods rather than open trails. I’ve read a couple books on Japanese tradition of Forest bathing, another topic that I thoroughly relate to.

Same! well I've read articles on forest bathing and I can relate as well. I know that no matter how bad of a day I might be having if I take a walk in the woods I feel calmer and more centered by the time I'm done

I'm reading Greenwood now and I realllllly like it. I am not sure its some great masterpiece of literature but its a damn good story and is making me appreciate trees a whole lot more

That’s great to hear- sometimes a really good story is just what I need over really great literature. Plus, trees 🌲:)

I have The Tell on hold and adding Sylvia to my TBR for when I need something fun and smart! I’m doing an audio/print tandem read of The Details thanks to you, and finishing up a very different historical mystery/crime fiction called The Impossible Thing.

2 things-Did you enjoy The Trickster book? I've had it on my shelf for awhile and keep almost picking it up! And I jusr went back and reviewed your Pulitzer Project...I cannot wait until you read Foreign Affairs, it is one of my lifetime favorites! And Vinny, the protagonist still hangs out with me sometimes!

We have similar taste I think (at least in some ways) so I think I will too. There was a very bad adaptation -definitely skip it! I’ll have to take the plunge here soon into Trickster
