I hit my reading goal for the year a month ago so i feel like i can relax and go with the flow. So i settled in with two 30 plus hour books. I felt no anx over reading more books than just one 34-hour long book. Now i am catching up on books that i have already purchased instead of buying more. All The Little Bird Hearts sounds right up my alley. Can’t wait for its release. I am also on the hunt for good stories/books that are not “buzzy” books. I don’t want to be reading what all the cool kids are reading unless it really appeals to me. I want to read more of what i enjoy. I want to discover new authors. My first step was to take a chance on a book mentioned in Audible Listeners Club called The Funny Thing About Norman Forman vy Julieta Henderson. I had never heard of this book vefore and i am really enjoying it.

I hear you on wanting to look for books to read that you haven't heard of- I've been feeling that too. I go back and forth between a few new releases I know I want to read, backlist, and then I'm on the hunt for books/authors that are new to me. Sometimes it's fun to explore and jump into a book with no idea what anyone else thinks about it - Congrats on hitting your goal!!

I think i have fooled myself into believing that popular authors or buzzy books are going to be five star reads. and as you can imagine, I discovered many books by popular authors have been big disappointment. I have also gotten to the point where it does not matter to me if it is a five star red. Just so long as I enjoyed the book. That’s the most important thing to me. as for my reading goal, I find it hilarious for myself that I said a low goal of 75 books for the year knowing full well I would exceed it. seriously, how many books I finish by the end of the year would be the same whether I set my goal at 75 or 125. My next goal actually is to not set goals for the number of books to read. that is difficult to do when I am tracking them in either Goodreads or story graph.

Last week, I read Wellness, which was quite an epic read - definitely not for everyone. I tried to start North Woods, but couldn’t get into it, so I’m reading The Leftover Woman now. I want to read The Vaster Wilds next, maybe this upcoming rainy weekend. My bookclub is discussing The Bookbinder next week, I love historical fiction and have learned so much from both of Pip Williams’ books.

I'm reading Wellness in Nov - I know it's long, was it epic in other ways for you? I need to check my Libbym I'm pretty sure I have The Bookbinder on hold. Do you have favorite historical fiction you like to recommend? I loved Take my Hand, Black Cake, and The Diamond Eye last year

Wellness, to me, wasn’t epic due to its length, but rather due to the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that it provoked. My two all-time favorite books (and both are historical fiction) are The Linnet Bird by Linda Holeman and Someone Knows My Name by Lawrence Hill. I recently found another book by Linda Holeman, I plan to read it soon...Take My Hand and Black Cake are also excellent books, I learned so much from both of them!

Ooh, I have Vaster Wilds on my library hold list, but I'm listening to The Change right now, and it's reminding me how much I enjoy January Lavoy as a narrator. Maybe I'll do it on audio. I'm enjoying The Last Ranger by Peter Heller. It's got definite fall vibes.

I think The Vaster Wilds is worth a try on audio, especially since you know you like January LaVoy- I have the audio of The Last Ranger, glad to hear you're enjoying it, I've been into books set in the wilderness so I really need to bump that up my tbr

I recommend doing a print/audio combo. I bet the nature descriptions and some of the interior monologue will be good on audio, but there are a ton of characters to keep track of. I’m constantly flipping back to remember different characters; even though I’m reading pretty quickly.

how’s your fall reading going? Are you following a tbr, reading backlist, reading buzzy new releases? What upcoming new release books are you looking forward to reading?
