Recently I’ve been thinking about Lonesome Dove so this might be the extra push I need. I must admit I dnf’d Overstory and The Underground Railroad but didn’t give them much of a chance. I owned The Golden Finch for years but never picked it up, it sounds like I should have!

I love a good reading goal like this!

Ohhh I dnf’d Underground as well.

I love this idea! I might add it to my reading plans for next year. This year I'm challenging myself by looking at my tbr, finding books I haven't read because I find them intimidating (either their very chunky; very famous; or I just have very high expectations), and then reading them!

Good luck with your challenge, it's fun to find out what we think of certain books on our tbr's

I read Orphan Master’s Son, Middlesex and Nickel Boys in the last 10+ years and enjoyed them all. Middlesex left the biggest impression.

The Nickel Boys is an all-time favorite of mine. I have not stopped thinking about it and it’s been 5 years since I read it. The Underground Railroad is very good too, I’m a big Whitehead fan. Liked the Goldfinch and finally! planning to read Demon Copperhead this year

Love hearing your thoughts on the Whitehead books! When I hear a book is someone's all time favorite it makes me even more excited to read it. I hope Demon ends up being one you love 🤞🏻

What a great project! Just looking at this century I was shocked to see I’ve read 7 winners and 3 finalists. Renee, Gilead is one of my favorite books of all time. I hope you enjoy it! It’s not a fast read and there’s little plot; it’s just a gorgeous reflection on grace. And everyone should read Lonesome Dove! I can’t wait to hear about all of your reading experience.

I'm looking forward to Gilead, I do love a reflective story!

I've somehow read 9 winners & 2 finalists! Guess I need to pay attention more to the Pulitzer... And Gilead seems to be where our book twinning diverges 😂 Also I apparently need to read Lonesome Dove! It's been popping up everywhere recently.

I noticed that too about Gilead! The exception that proves the rule? 😉 Lonesome Dove is just wonderful but it is a doorstop! But I think you would love it.

Doorstops aren't intimidating me as much these days! After I finish War & Peace who knows when, maybe Lonesome Dove will be my next chonker 😆

I am so impressed you read that! I am definitely intimidated.

Well, don't be impressed yet. Only 35% through W&P 😅🙃

I was surprised to find that I have read 21 of the fiction winners. Some that I would highly recommend besides the ones you listed are March by Geraldine Brooks, Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides, and Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner. There were five titles that I haven't read that jumped out to me that I want to read (I think I own four of the five) and at the top of that list is Lonesome Dove.

Wow 21! That's awesome Kristin. Making note of your other three recs, I thought about March and I may try to squeeze that in too. So many of us want to read Lonesome Dove!

I love this reading project, Renee! I've loved many of these books, but there are also lots of Pulitzer books (including some of your chosen 11) that I haven't read. I might have to make a list of my own!!

Thanks Sara:) Yes to your own list! I'd love to hear what books would make your list, especially the ones you've already loved

My son and I were going to try to read all the Pulitzer Prize winners but, unfortunately, we started with A Confederacy of Dunces, which we both hated, so we changed our minds. Looking at the list, I'm surprised by how many of them I have read.

I hated that book SO much! I’m so glad I’m not the Lone Ranger!

DNFed Confederancy-- couldn't do it!!

Thank you for this list. It seems I’m more of a Pulitzer reader than Booker. I’ve read many of the books on the Pulitzer list and I’ve decided to pick some as a reading goal this year. I’ll let you know if mine match up with some of yours.

I don't often pay attention to prize winners because I think i won't like them, but in your list were several I've enjoyed thoroughly. Last month I happened to read 1928's winner along with The Close Reads Podcast (The Bridge of San Luis Rey by Thornton Wilder). The discussion made the experience even better. I hope your project goes well!

Love it! About a year and a half ago, I embarked on more of a lifetime project to read *all* the Pulitzer winners, including non-fiction titles. https://www.readmorebooks.co/p/introducing-the-pulitzer-project

Good luck with your reading journey!

What a great project! I am so excited to see LONESOME DOVE on your list. And I loved OLIVE KITTERIDGE, but some people don't like Strout's "Olive" books, and I loved them all! And THE ROAD is an all-time favorite. Thanks Renee...can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Thanks Linda, I debated about Olive K because I got to know and like her in Tell Me Everything. I do think I’ll read that some time

Louis Bromfield, winner of the 1926 Pulitzer is from my hometown, Mansfield OH. He was quite famous, an interesting bio and accomplishments. His celebrated farm is now Malabar St PK
