I just finished Slanting Toward the Sea and give you full permission to say, “I told you so!” What a powerful yet quiet debut - I’ll be processing it for some time 💗
Haha I’m never one to say I told you so but you did give me permission 😉 There’s a reason it’s my top book of the year, it’s got everything going for it. I’ll be dropping my interview with her next week, she was wonderful to talk with
I finished The River Is Waiting on Sunday. I cried and cried and cried some more. I need to email you about it. I went into it the ame as you not knowing much about what to expect. Like you, i cannot stop thinking about the book or the characters.
We were both crying on Sunday! I was cleaning the kitchen Sunday morning and listening to the end of it and just pulling tissues out of the box right and left. Then I listened to his interview with Oprah. You'd like that if you haven't already listened
I just finished WITH A VENGEANCE, pretty disappointing, not horrible, but kind of meh. So I think we kind of agree. I just started FINDING GRACE, and the first chapter left me speechless. Let's see how it continues.
Yes the new Sager felt like a mashup of Murder on the Orient Express and And then Their Were None with way too many twists thrown in. I hope Finding Grace is a winner for you!
I loved The Sisters! Can’t wait to hear what you think of it!
I heard Wally Lamb & James Frey on Zibby’s podcast, and their interviews surprisingly piqued my interest. So now seeing you gave those 5 stars too, makes me want to read them both.
My most recent favorite read is My Friends by Frederik Backman. I had to reread the first pages a few times, though I think that’s just me ‘cause my focus hasn’t been great this summer. But then I was engrossed and read it in a few sittings this weekend. I LOVED it. He is a master storyteller. It made me laugh, it made me cry. Some of the sentences are so beautiful. And the commentary is about friendships, love, grief, trauma, and art — sooo good!

There’s also one with Zibby. I cried too…near the end…IYKYK. My best book of 2025 so far.
