💬 Friday Thread: What Is Your Reading Color & Is It Accurate?
plus, what have you been reading this week?
Hello and Happy Friday!
This past weekend I popped onto Instagram and saw several people sharing their discovery of their reading color. With one click of the link they provided, I too could discover what my reading color was and I’ll tell you, there’s nothing I like better than taking a quiz that will give me any type of information that allows me to know myself better:) The Read Your Color quiz is from Steven Reese who’s now on Substack at Read Your Color where subscribers can get regular newsletters of “hand-picked book recommendations that match your unique reading personality”. What are the benefits to knowing your reading color you might be asking? According to the site…
Read Your Color is an assessment that helps you discover your unique reader type so you can finally find books that match you. Take the quiz, get personalized recommendations, and never read a book you don’t love again.
This is a simple, yet potentially rewarding experience for readers. Take a quiz and gain awareness to the types of books your readerly heart is desiring lately. My thinking was, even if the quiz is only “kind of” accurate, it could still provide insight into my reading preferences. Well I’ve taken the quiz three times over the past week—as a mood reader I wanted to see if any of my answers would change1—and in my opinion, it’s spot on accurate for this time in my readerly life. I have to tell you, I felt seen when I read about my color—the type of reader I am at this season of life was exactly me, the types of fiction and nonfiction stories I’m gravitating to were spot on, and all four books I’d probably love went straight onto my tbr.
I think Read Your Color is a fun quiz that offers insight into how I’m reading right now, in this season/time of my life. I’m using it as a mirror to reflect the current state of my reading and as a guide to help me explore and think deeper about the types of stories that seem to be working best for me right now. I’m also planning on using my results to seek out stories in the other colors that I scored fairly high in. As for my lowest scoring color, I plan to explore that color and book recommendations when I want to read outside of my comfort zone.
Below, I’ll share my results and the book I just so happened to finish two days ago that showed up as a recommendation for my color in this week’s Read Your Color book recs. Another spot on recommendation! I can’t wait to hear all about your color result and your thoughts on it in the comments…
Question Time
The questions I ask in weekly threads are meant to be fun and help us connect, so please know you don’t have to answer each question, if you only have the time/desire to answer one, great! Please put book titles IN ALL CAPS for easy reading:)
