Bring on the book titles! I’m a mood reader and as August approaches, I’ve been spending extra time shifting and curating my end of summer to- be- read list (TBR). I’d love for us to share what book(s) we are bumping to the top of our tbr lists before summer ends. What books - buzzy or backlist- do you feel you MUST READ before the end of summer?
A few titles I've moved to the top of my summer tbr (mostly because they have summery settings) are: Hot Milk by Deborah Levy, Talking at Night by Claire Daverly, Fireworks Every Night by Beth Rayner, The Beach at Summerly by Beatriz Williams. and The Paris Mystery by Kirsty Manning
I picked up The Opportunist by Elyse Friedman, a backlist summer bonanza. Also I have Block Party by Jamie Day and Charm City Rocks by Matthew Norman. I have enjoyed Backlist recs this summer, I usually just read buzzy book, it’s been a nice switch for the summer :)
I loved Charm City Rocks, I hope you enjoy it too! I've also really been loving backlist this summer- August has me a bit distracted with all the new releases though- there are SO many books that sound so good being published in aug!!
I picked up The Beach at Summerly and it is among my August hopefuls! I also have One Summer in Savannah, Broadway Butterfly, The Air Raid Book Club and None of This is True on my short list. I haven't heard of Hot Milk, need to check that out!
I also have Broadway Butterfly on my Aug Tbr- my mom read it and loved it! I'm very excited about Hot Milk because I recently read and LOVED August Blue, the author's newest book- that one is very atmospheric as far as summer settings go and it's international- the story takes place in Greece, London, Paris and Italy!
The Deluge by Stephen Markley feels like the most obvious choice for required reading relative to THIS summer. I also just read and was blown away by Trust by Hernan Diaz, The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai (LOOOOVED) and for a newer title, Open Throat by Henry Hoke was a knockout!!!
I've seen great reviews for The Deluge! Glad to hear Open Throat was a winner- I have a copy but haven't heard much about it- the premise is so original
Two of my absolute favorites (I just referenced The Deluge for a second time in today's post!) that will well outlast "of this year!!" So many absolutely brilliant authors out there...
