As you can see, I titled this post backlist beach reads because these are all books I read on a beach vacation or in the most comfy lounge chair by a pool. I went deep into my backlist to bring you some backlist book recs that you probably aren’t seeing on any other summer lists right now- and all are books I gave 4 -5 ⭐️s… I loved these books!
Something I want to highlight- these books do not necessarily have beachy, summery settings- some do, but others are simply books I binged on the beach. For me, when I think about what I want to read on the beach or during an afternoon by the pool, I tend to gravitate toward compelling stories that pull me in quickly, ones often involving a mystery or fast paced thrills, family or friendship drama, and bonus points if the setting includes being on or near any type of water and/or takes place in the summer. All of my picks today fit one or more of these “requirements.”
I believe that any genre of book can be a “beach read". My main priority when choosing what I want to read before I head to the beach - and let’s be clear- this is a big decision right?😅 is finding a book in which the story pulls me in within the first sentence or the first few paragraphs.
I know you might have a very different way of choosing your beach reads and/or an entirely different preference for what you want to read if you’re on a beach vacation or spending the day by the pool. Tell us all about it in the comments, including your favorite backlist beach reads📚🏖️

The Vanishing Hour by Seraphina Nova Glass
A shocking thriller about secrets...and the lengths some people will go to keep them…..Grace Holloway keeps to herself. Since narrowly escaping death at the hands of the man who kidnapped her, she's thrown herself into the small inn she runs in Rock Harbor, Maine. It's quiet, quaint and, in the off-season, completely isolated--the perfect place for Grace to keep her own secrets.
