Very excited about the new Elizabeth Strout book too! And, I was not really aware of Amy Griffin's memoir and the conversations surrounding it... Found the Times' article and Substack post you linked extremely fascinating!
The Overnight Guest was so good! I keep hearing great things about L&D&G, I’ll have to check it out. I thought The Tell was very good, I listened to it too - I read the article and it raises interesting points.
This is why I love talking about books! Pamela Klinger-Horn mentioned it on a podcast episode months ago and something about the characters spoke to me. I was pretty much hand selling it in an Austin bookstore last week and the manager overheard and offered me a job 😂
Erin I think you'll like it, if you try it give it a few sections/pages as he introduces the characters and the town. It's got huge small town vibes which always reminds me of how we grew up
In a weird way, it reminded me of The Road to Dalton. Very different people, very different vibes, but so similar in structure and storytelling- both of characters and a community.
I think you'll like it- also, knowing you like darker stories I think you'd also like Before She Was Found, I also gave that 5 stars and still remember how chilling the beginning scenes were
Thanks for the head’s up on the new Elizabeth Strout book, one of my favorite authors! Also looking forward to Maggie O’Farrell’s book and added it to my list.
I’m in a slump, but it’s me and life, not the books. I’m hoping to reset this week.
I just finished THE TRUE TRUE STORY OF RAJA THE GULLIBLE AND HIS MOTHER and it is a 5-star for me and will be in my top 10 for the year. I was unsure going into it but by the time I finished I was in love with this book. Heard from an author I follow on Facebook as he’s reading CROOKS and said he is 75% of the book and it’s living up to the height. So that is going on my next to read after I read LIFE DEATH AND GIANTS. I knew I wanted to read it after you wrote about it the other day but became further convinced after listening to a review on it on YouTube this afternoon. Thanks for the link on the book THE TELL. I was skeptical when I read it because of the use of a drug and because of the inaccuracy of retrieved memories. However, I thought Oprah had learned her lesson from a previous author and relied on her testimony in selecting the book. I will not get into a psychology discussion here ha ha. But I just don’t get the purpose of doing this if it is not true.
So glad that recent read was a 5 star winner- and top of the year even better. I've never heard of it until you mentioned it. I hope you enjoy Life and Death and Giants, I do think you'll like the audio narration of it
Looking forward to chatting more about Life & Death & Giants. Our reading is aligning more and more these days. 😃
It's not often we read the same books around the same time:)

I listened to her memoir when it came out in the spring and I found it riveting. I'm not sure what to think about all of this recent controversy.

I think you’ll enjoy the Perfect hosts and definitely let me know if you read L&D&G
I’m excited for the Heather Gudenkauf!
I’m thrilled you enjoyed Life and Death and Giants like I did and your review truly captures how I felt about it. 💗
I can't stop thinking about it! I told my mom to read it on Saturday and she called me last night after she finished and said she loved it so much

For some reason I’ve been resisting Life and Death and Giants but I think you’ve convinced me!

I can see this comparison!
I'll need to read The Perfect Hosts! I loved your last rec (OVernight Guest) by her!
I think you'll like it- also, knowing you like darker stories I think you'd also like Before She Was Found, I also gave that 5 stars and still remember how chilling the beginning scenes were
I'll add it to the TBR then 💕
OMG!!! A new book by Maggie O’Farrell!!!!

I always say the books will be waiting when we're ready. Hope you find something to restart your reading mojo this week:)
Thanks me too!
