Must Read Backlist Books!
A psychological thriller for your beach bag + a 5 ⭐️ under the radar mystery
Hello,
I hope you’ve had a great weekend! Today, I’m going to jump straight to the book recommendations - backlist titles I’ve enjoyed and would recommend, as well as one I’ve recently added to my own tbr. I love sharing these quick recs of older books that can (most likely) be found easily at the library or in paperback from your favorite bookstore.
BACKLIST PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER I’VE ENJOYED
The Family Holiday by Shalini Boland (2022) - Two families. One house swap. A vacation to die for.
Take the movie The Holiday starring Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, switch it to families, add in the fantastic settings of coastal Italy and London, and make it an intriguing psychological thriller with questionable love, secrets, scandal, and betrayals and you’ve got this book. Entertaining popcorn suspense/drama- would make a good pool or beach read. I listened and recommend the audio (British narration) 🎧
BACKLIST 2017 THRILLER THAT FLEW WAYYY UNDER THE RADAR
Burntown by Jennifer McMahon (2017) - Eva grew up watching her father, Miles, invent strange and wonderful things in the small workshop behind their house on the river that runs through their old mill town. But the most important invention of all was the one that Miles claimed came from the mind of Thomas Edison himself--a machine that allowed one to speak with loved ones long passed- what happens one stormy night when the machine whirs to life on it own?
This was a story filled with suspense, intrigue, and some of the quirkiest types of misfit characters I've had the pleasure of reading. I stayed up super late into the night reading this book! If you like mysteries and thrillers loaded with originality, atmosphere, and memorable characters give this a try
BACKLIST BOOK I RECENTLY ADDED TO MY TBR
Brightness Falls by Jay McInerney (1992)
Brightness Falls is the story of Russell and Corrine Calloway. Set against the world of New York publishing, McInerney provides a stunningly accomplished portrayal of people contending with early success, then getting lost in the middle of their lives
Have a great week!
