💬 Friday Thread: What's Your Last, Current, Next?
Books, tv shows/movies, products, let's get creative this week!
Happy Friday! How’s your week been going? Are you feeling satisfied with your reading this month or will you be tweaking anything heading into the last week of February? Lately, my reading has been in a steady rhythm—one book finished, another immediately started, limited sampling, and no dnfs. Even though I always think I’d love to plan out my reads in advance, I’m fully embracing my mood reader tendencies these days. I’ve been moving between literary fiction, mystery/thrillers, and a nonfiction on the side for morning reading (still reading Upstream by Mary Oliver), and this rhythm has been leading to many high quality reads for me this month! It’s been the best kind of momentum, where every book feels like exactly the right choice at the right time.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how the books we just finished, the ones we’re currently reading, and the ones we’re anticipating create an ongoing rhythm in our reading lives. Sometimes they connect in surprising ways—a theme that unintentionally carries over, a shift in mood that feels perfectly timed, or the way a book lingers in our minds long after we’ve turned the last page. Other times, we intentionally mix things up, seeking contrast: a propulsive thriller after a slow literary novel, nonfiction after a stretch of fiction, or something light and fun after something heavy. On the flip side, we’ve all experienced that break in reading rhythm where no book we pick up feels right or despite having unlimited tbr’s we’re left feeling that there’s nothing to read.
No matter where we are reading lives stand right now, there’s something satisfying about tracking this pattern—our last, current, next—and seeing how it reflects our moods, routines, and curiosities at any given time. I know I’ve touched on reading specifically, but our moods, routines and curiosities are also reflected in the tv shows we watch, foods we eat, and products we use, etc. With that in mind, let’s talk about books & more for our weekly discussion…
Question Time
What’s your last, current, next? - could be the last book you read and loved (or hated), your current read, and what you think you’ll read next. Or could be the last tv show you binged, what you’re currently watching, and what you'll likely watch next. You get the idea, feel free to be as creative as you’d like:)
