💬 Friday Thread: What Was Your Last 5 Star ⭐️ Read?
Plus what have you been reading & watching lately?
Hello reading friends,
My reading/book cup has been overflowing this week! On Wednesday I had a wonderful podcast interview with author Virginia Evans. Virginia wrote The Correspondent, one of my 5 star spring reads and a book I know many of you have also enjoyed. During our non-spoiler discussion we chatted about her book, but we also went behind the scenes of her writing and reading life. What a delight for me to not only get to meet Virginia, but to hear more about her writing journey and the books she has loved as a reader. I think you’ll enjoy listening to our conversation! Keep an eye out for Books & Beyond with Virginia Evans coming next week:)
This week’s question about your last 5 star read is one I’m extra excited about because I’m working on a little side project involving 5 star reads and I would love to include the books you share today.
As for what I’ve been reading and watching this week….I finished a 5 star backlist read that I’ll be featuring as one of my Surprise Reads (April’s episode is free to all if you’d like to listen, link here) at the end of the month and on audio I started Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E Schwab (releasing June 10, thanks to Macmillan Audio for the complimentary ALC). It’s a full cast narration which I’m excited about and so far I’m intrigued by the story and characters. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on a new release I finished and didn’t love in the comments.
On the watch front, we went to the movies last night and saw the new Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning and it was fantastic! I’ve watched all of the movies in this franchise over the years, but I didn’t rewatch any of them before this one and I was fine. I thought they did a great job of catching viewers up on what’s happened over the last 30 years, as well as where things were left in the previous movie Dead Reckoning. I can’t believe it’s been 30 years! I won’t spoil anything, but I’ll leave you with two thoughts I had when we left the theatre—that was the most entertained I’ve been for almost 3 hours in a LONG time and why didn’t Tom Cruise get a haircut for this new movie? Hmmm food for thought. In case you’re inclined to rewatch all of the Mission Impossible movies, here’s a link for their order and a little synopsis of each.
