💬 Friday Thread: What Atmospheric Fall Reads Have You Loved?
And what did you read this week?
Hello!
I’m feeling my fall reading vibes, so this feels like the perfect time to ask for your atmospheric fall reading recommendations. What books have you loved that you felt gave you that autumn feeling? Maybe it was the setting—chilly temperatures, darker evenings, foggy days, a cozy fire, dark academia, a creepy house, etc. Or maybe you dive deeper into fall literary fiction or fantasy this time of year. Even if you aren’t a seasonal reader and don’t care that it’s fall, I bet you have some great books with atmospheric fall vibes that you can recommend:)
Last year I shared 10 of my favorite books with fall vibes and I’ll share a couple more titles in the comments, along with the upcoming November thriller I just finished that I think will make a great fall read.
Oh, I also finished the audio sample of Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger on my walk with Vinny yesterday and I was intrigued so I think that’s my next audiobook. FYI, audio sampling is a great way to check out several titles while on the go. I prefer to use the Libby App because they give about a 5 min preview. The audiobook doesn’t have to be available for you to listen to a sample, you simply click “play sample” and you can listen. I find this saves me time because even if I don’t like the narrator, I can get a feel for the story and if I want to continue reading I’ll either get the ebook or a print copy.
Meet you in the comments!
Question Time
The questions I ask in weekly threads are meant to be fun and help us connect, so please know you don’t have to answer each question, if you only have the time/desire to answer one, great! Please put book titles IN ALL CAPS for easy reading and include the author’s name if possible:)

Hi all! I finished a great thriller this week- THE PERFECT HOSTS by Heather Gudenkauf. This releases Nov 4 and was one of my most anticipated fall reads I mentioned on the episode with Katie. It's about a wealthy people who go all out and over the top for a gender reveal party which goes very wrong and someone ends up dead. The story is set entirely in Wyoming and the family involved live in the mountains on a large ranch which is a setting that gave me all the fall vibes. I flew through this and loved it. I'd like to also add that finally we get a thriller that feels fresh, the gender reveal party was the perfect set up for this murder mystery.
A few more fall vibes books that I've read and loved are: AN HONEST MAN and NEVER FAR AWAY by Michael Koryta, TWO STEP DEVIL b Jamie Quatro, BABEL by R.F. Kuang, THE CARETAKER by Ron Rash and BEASTS OF EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCE by Ruth Emma Lang
I am not much of a seasonal reader, but I’m certain at some point I’ve read books with strong fall vibes. But for the life of me, I can’t come up with one at the moment! I had one real stand out read this week in the midst of others that are just “fine”. WHEN THE CRANES FLY SOUTH was one of the most heartbreaking but well written and beautiful books I’ve read in a long, long time. It’s very hard to make me emotional reading a book because I don’t enjoy books that I feel like are emotionally manipulative but this one just felt so honest about end of life. I highly, highly recommend this, especially if you have older or declining parents or if you have already experienced the loss of a parent. It was very impactful for me.
