Hello reading friends!

How has your week been going? This week has flown by for me. I swear it seems like it was just Monday morning, yet here we are with the weekend upon us. I’m looking forward to reading while sitting outside in the sun! This deserves an exclamation point because last weekend here in Ohio it was cold and rained for about 6 days straight. On the plus side, my perennial flowers1 are looking vibrant.

I’ve been looking forward to asking this week’s questions, not only because I love finding out what books you’ve been reading end enjoying (or not) this week, but I’ve been wanting to ask you about your go-to genre book recommendations. Those certain books you find yourself recommending when someone says…I’m in the mood for genre fill in the blank, what books have you loved? You choose your genres (could be subgenres too), let’s have fun with this!

I’ll start with a few of mine and then I’ll be sharing in the comments the upcoming May mystery/thriller that I just finished - and didn’t love.

My Go-To Genre Book Recommendations

Literary Fiction

  • Thirst For Salt by Madeline Lucas - for those in the mood for literary love stories

  • The Stationary Shop by Marjan Kamali - for those in the mood for a set over decades literary love story

  • Signal Fires by Dani Shapiro - for those in the mood for literary family dramas with a bit of mystery thrown in

  • The Divorce Party by Laura Dave - for those in the mood family and marriage drama with a summer time setting and a bit of spice

Memoir

  • The Sun Does Shine by Anthony Ray Hinton - for those in the mood to be inspired, moved, enraged, and amazed

  • The Best Strangers in the World: Stories From a Life Spent Listening by Ari Shapiro - for those in the mood for arm chair travel and hearing about other people’s lives

  • When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi - for those in the mood for fascinating literary memoirs and don’t mind being left sobbing

Mystery/Thriller

  • Stalker by Lars Kepler - for those in the mood for a combo- a chilling thriller with a hard to solve mystery

  • Jane Casey’s Maeve Kerrigan series (I started with book 3 The Last Girl) - for those in the mood for page turning mysteries with interesting characters to follow book to book, and complex mysteries to solve

  • Velocity by Dean Koontz - for those in the mood for pull me in from the start and never let up fast paced thrillers

Question Time

  1. What are your go-to genre book recommendations? - feel free to just share titles and as many or as few genres as you like, there are no rules here:)
