💬 Friday Thread🧵: Introducing The Rec Exchange (a thread to ask for & share recommendations)
& What Books Are Getting Your Votes in the Goodreads Choice Awards?
Hello! Happy Friday Reading Friends📚
Before we get into what I hope is a fun inquiry of recommendations you’d like to get from others in the community and a chat about the Goodreads Choice Awards, I need to share some housekeeping changes to Itsbooktalk & More.
First, I LOVE this Friday Thread and the robust comment section and community we’ve built since I started doing these back in April. I look forward to this post every week and I hope you do too. I’ve kept these weekly Friday Threads open to all subscribers for the past seven months and I’ve been happy to do so. But recently there’s been random, inappropriate comments from either bots or people who clearly have an agenda that’s not reading related. I’ve had to spend time blocking accounts and deleting comments which is not what I want to spend time doing. I read every comment because I want to connect with you and when someone is rude and/or inappropriate it brings down my vibe and makes this space feel invaded for lack of a better word.
For this reason, I’ve decided to put this weekly Friday Thread behind a paywall. I want to ensure that we can continue sharing, chatting, and engaging with each other as a community free from rude people, trolls or bots.
For those who would like to upgrade their subscription and continue enjoying this weekly thread (plus get my audio content & the archive), I’ve lowered the price of my yearly subscription. It’s the yearly price only because Substack doesn’t allow us to have a regular priced monthly subscription that’s lower than $5. I hope you’ll stick around, I have some fun end of the year threads planned including: best books of the year, fun superlative questions, 2025 reading goals, gift ideas for the holiday season, & more If you find this community/content valuable, but can’t afford to upgrade at this time please email me at itsbooktalk@gmail.com
Current yearly subscribers who have upcoming renewals, if you’d like to take advantage of this lower yearly price, you can turn off your auto renew and then rejoin when your subscription expires.
Ok, moving on! This week I’m introducing a new monthly recommendation thread I’m calling The Rec Exchange. By request (thank you Clara), this is a thread where you can ask for recommendations and crowdsource the group. Maybe you’re looking for moody book recommendations, a new tv show to watch, a certain type of product, gift ideas…whatever you’d like a rec for, just ask and let this awesome group help. My plan is to do a Rec Exchange once a month and I’ll be sure to link to the previous one for easy reference. Although if you all decide you want The Rec Exchange weekly or bi-weekly I’m happy to make adjustments. Of course you can always quickly access all threads at the top of my website homepage. Along with The Rec Exchange, we have to chat about the Goodreads Choice Awards…..
