Friday Features
Two Recent Reads I Loved, A Favorite App, Summer Book Lists, & More,... Basically Anything I Want to "Feature" This Week
Hi Friends!
Is it just me or is May flying by? Although I welcome summer weather after months of cold and gray in the midwest, I often think life tends to feel busier from May-Sept. What also seems busier- my TBR! I have officially reached a place of anarchy when it comes to the amount of books I want to read.
I’m not sure if this summer we’re seeing an increase in new releases because book publication dates were pushed back after Covid, but there’s a definite abundance of riches as far as summer releases. As a mood reader who likes a lot of options, I’ve also been adding backlist books to my tbr, hence the anarchy. It’s not the worst bookworm problem to have, but I would like my tbr to be better organized- do you have any strategies for tackling your tbr each week or month?
On to Friday Features! This is a post I hope to bring you as often as possible in which I’m sharing anything I’d like to “Feature.” I personally love reading posts where people share a variety of things they’re loving and years ago I did something similar when I used to have a blog and it was one of my favorite posts to write.
TWO RECENT READS I LOVED
Beautiful Little Fools by Jillian Cantor. This Gatsby reimagining focuses on three women in the story- Daisy, Jordan, and Myrtle- and was a surprising page turner with a mystery I didn’t have figured out (bonus). I loved the way the author captured the setting details and gave us three women to root for as well as feel frustrated with at times. The audio was fantastic 🎧
The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin. Talk about a book to savor! I listened to this- Rick Rubin narrates and his voice is one of the most soothing voices I’ve ever heard. Combine that with his inspiring, insightful, wisdom filled thoughts and ideas and this just may end up in my top reads of the year. I also bought a print copy which I will promptly fill with tabs and highlights. This would make a great graduation gift, but truly, it’s a book EVERYONE would enjoy- and I rarely say that!
AN APP I LOVE TO READ DAILY
The DailyHoroscope App for iPhone (there’s many horoscope apps- this will say DH) - this Free app is one I look forward to opening every morning while I’m having coffee (dark roast w/creme:). It has many features but my favs are the daily, weekly and monthly horoscopes- it’s been eerily accurate on more than one occasion, but overall it’s a fun, positive way for me to start my day
SUMMER BOOK LISTS - I’m a firm believer that one can never have too many summer book lists and guides to browse

Are You There Blake Lively? It’s Me, A Stylist - by Meecham Whitson Meriweather
MY WEEKEND READ - The Secret Life of Writers by Guillaume Musso -this cover screams summer reading! I’m not too far but I’m intrigued by the story- I tend to love books involving authors, especially when there’s secrets at play. I purchased this from Blackwell’s
I hope you have a great weekend! If you have time, let me know what you’re reading this weekend or if you have a Friday Feature to share
Rick Rubin was recently on two podcasts that I listen too: OnBeing and The Armchair Expert. His life and how he operates in music is so interesting. The book is on my library list.
I’m currently reading Adelaide by Genevieve Wheeler and listening to I’m judging you by Luvvie Ajayi, I love the the author’s quick witted narration of the book. I purchased The Creative Act last month and plan to read it this month, I listened to him on the Huberman lab podcast and I was so intrigued with the content of the interview. I’m looking forward to reading this weekend! Have a great weekend!
